There are now 2,163 rooms and 80,000 square feet of gaming space. Construction and expansions continued for the next few years, including a $95 million expansion that added more hotel rooms, more convention space, and five more food and beverage outlets. Builder broke ground in 2003, and the casino opened two years later boasting 662 rooms.
Gaughan spent $500 million building South Point, which was called South Coast back then. Michael Gaughan owns and operates the casino, which serves as the primary sponsor of Brendan Gaughan’s NASCAR car. South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa, is one of the newer Las Vegas casinos having opened its doors on December 22, 2005.
